SUMMARY:

The Application Developer III work as a member of the development team supporting software development application efforts to build and maintain end-to-end solutions based on business functional requirements, ensuring that the applications performance metrics meet stated targets.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Analyzes highly complex business requirement designs and writes technical specifications to design or redesign complex computer platforms and applications.
  • Assist in providing Leadership to projects, allocates and manages resources and manages the work of less experienced staff where directed by Application Developer Lead.
  • Assuring quality, security and compliance requirements are met for assigned supported areas and oversees creation of or updates to and testing of the business continuation plan.
  • Providing coding direction to less experienced staff or develops highly complex original code.
  • Acting as an expert technical resource for modeling, simulation and analysis efforts.
  • Verifying program logic by overseeing the preparation of test data, testing and debugging of programs.
  • Overseeing overall systems testing and the migration of platforms and applications to production
  • Developing new documentation, departmental technical procedures and user guides.
  • Support software development application efforts to include maintenance, enhancements, documentation, and testing.
  • Utilizes mature coding skills, as well as experience, to develop web and client applications in order to build and maintain end-to-end solutions. 
  • Responsible for creating custom applications (driven by documented specifications provided through lead department personnel) and reports to implement new business requirements and augment current application functionality across various corporate systems. 
  • The Application Developer III must coordinate development with the Application Development Lead and, when necessary, Business Systems Analysts. 
  • Responsible for ensuring proper documentation of the design and effective use of code.
  • Complies with Austal’s employee handbook general guidelines, company
  • procedures and policies.

QUALIFICATIONS / KNOWLEDGE / EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Mathematics, or related technical discipline degree required.
    • Four (4) years’ similar work experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Five (5) years’ software development required.
  • Three (3) to five (5) years’ C# experience required.
  • Experience with the newest C# frameworks preferred.
  • Three (3) years’ experience with MVC web applications development required.
  • Two (2) years’ experience with JavaScript and JQuery required.
  • Demonstrated expert skill level of REST, XML web services, WebAPI required.
  • Five (5) years’ SQL Server & greater (tables, schemas, etc.) required.
  • Visual Studio, or newer, release required.
  • Advanced level coding skills, as well as, experience developing web and client applications required. 
  • Demonstrated advanced SDLC Techniques required.

DIRECTION EXERCISED:

This position will work within priorities set by Application Development Lead and/or Business Applications Manager.

LIAISES WITH:

This position will liaise with department personnel as well as other process stakeholders within the company, as directed by Application Development Lead and/or Business Applications Manager.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to humid conditions, bright flashing lights, moving mechanical parts, high precarious places, outside weather conditions, and extreme heat.  The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes and/or airborne particles at or below the PEL, toxic or caustic chemicals, and heat and cold.  The noise level in the work environment is usually very loud, + 90 dB.
