AUTHORITIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:

Lead customer engagement to include new construction and services for government and commercial customers. Responsible for executing opportunity life-cycle from new market identification through successful bid. Key participant in development of company’s strategy and business plan. Additional responsibilities include support of the company’s media and legislative campaigns.  

Develop and execute the customer engagement strategy.

  • Develop and execute customer engagement plans for key markets especially Navy, Coast Guard, USMC, and Military Sealift Command. Ensure regular interactions with key customers to maintain and grow new business. 
  • Develop call plans and make frequent contact with key staff members of DoN / OPNAV, HQMC / CD&I, USCG, and other current and potential government and commercial customers.
  • Develop call plans with key members of acquisition communities including Navy, USMC, USCG, and other potential customers.

Lead and responsible for the identification and capture of new business to grow revenue. 

  • Identify new opportunities.
  • Support development of capture plans.
  • Recommend teaming arrangements to increase competitiveness.
  • Analyze future concepts and emerging markets to provide assessment of potential for success and competitive position.
  • Support merger and acquisition activity.
  • Support business intelligence processes to identify new markets and position Austal USA to win future competitions. 
  • Develop and execute plans to capture international business. Maintain relations with NIPO, PMS 525, PMS 325 and other cognizant customers.

Support development and execution of legislative strategy.

  • Monitor the federal budget process and POM development. 
  • Prepare papers, testimony, and questions for hearings.
  • Maintain close contact with congressional staff members throughout the year to maintain awareness of key programs.
  • Monitor and influence 30-year Shipbuilding Plan.
  • Monitor Congressional activity relating to Austal USA Programs.
  • Prepare programmatic briefs for use with Members and Staff.

Support development of trade show and media engagement efforts in coordination with Director Communications and Director Strategy & Business Development.

  • Identify trade shows that support Austal USA objectives to maintain / grow business.
  • Support development of plans for each show to include messaging and customer engagement strategy.
  • Support engagement with media thorough development of talking points, providing written responses, and conducting interviews.

Support execution of business development and capture activity.

  • Support development of capture plans.
  • Support gate reviews.

QUALIFICATIONS / KNOWLEDGE / EXPERIENCE:

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree required 
  • 10 years Navy operational and / or acquisition experience.
  • Extensive knowledge of the DoD and Navy budget processes.
  • Must possess a high level of understanding of technical and engineering issues as related to Naval shipbuilding
  • Ability to lead and manage in a fast-paced and constantly changing environment as demonstrated through previous management/leadership experience.
  • Proven ability to set tasks for self and others.
  • Ability to listen to customers and act appropriately.
  • Excellent communication, leadership and management skills.

Desired

  • Experience in Navy shipbuilding acquisition
  • Experience leading capture and proposal efforts for large Navy programs
  • Experience with Foreign Military Sales (FMS)
  • Experience in legislative affairs
  • Familiar with FAR/DFAR

DISCRETION EXERCISED:  Full discretionary authority to correct and discipline, recommend pay increase, transfers, promotions, discharges, and process grievances.

ADDITIONAL GUIDELINES:

  • Position will necessitate travel on a regular basis, primarily to Austal USA in Mobile AL.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain required Security Clearance.
  • Candidates must be able to provide proof of US Person status.
