REPORTS TO: Controller

SUPERVISES: Financial Auditors, Finance Technical Writer, Risk Analyst


  • Ensures the Company maintains compliance with federal government contracting rules and regulations which involve financial reporting by performing regulatory reviews and research
  • Performs operational reviews consistent with internal policies and procedures
  • Liaises with various government agencies, predominately DCAA/ SUPSHIP, external audit agencies and other financial consulting organizations
  • Manages all aspects of financial audits for Austal USA and its subsidiaries to include half year and fiscal year end reporting requirements
  • Prepares responses to DCAA or other government agency audit requests and reports as well as maintains internal management review reporting
  • Determines and develops audit strategies that provide economic value to the entire Company
  • Manages the financial compliance function of Austal USA and its subsidiaries
  • Manages personnel whose responsibilities include financial compliance and finance procedural activities
  • Coordinates Cost Accounting Standards (CAS) and related compliance training to address any compliance issues
  • Manages and coordinates all miscellaneous compliance reporting requirements involving all financial reporting
  • Oversees the personnel responsible for ensuring proper insurance, loss control and risk management programs are in place for the organization that align with the Company’s strategic goals while maintaining compliance with all applicable laws, regulations and standards
  • Works with management to identify potential government and risk compliance problems
  • Supports special internal projects
  • Oversees the development of policies and procedures for areas of responsibility within the organization
  • Act as a Compliance Champion for the organization and work to promote a culture of compliance throughout the organization.
  • Monitoring for changes in, and making recommendations for improvements to comply with laws, rules, regulations, and policies that govern business activities in your department or subject area.
  • Assist in compliance risk assessments and risk reporting in accordance with the Company’s risk assessment program.
  • Developing, providing, and documenting compliance training.
  • Compliance monitoring, surveillance, and auditing efforts, and assisting in investigations of suspected compliance violations.


  • Bachelor’s degree (BS/BA) or equivalent required
  • 7-10 years manufacturing/corporate accounting, compliance, legal or audit related experience, and/or CPA, CMA, MSA, or NCMA
  • Minimum of 3 years’ relevant work experience in the Federal contracting industry
  • 3-5 years’ supervisory experience required. Ability to multitask, delegate and work quickly under pressure.
  • Working knowledge of FAR, DFARS, CAS and Disclosure Statements
  • General knowledge of GAAP and IFRS
  • Experience with government compliance issues required, especially with DCAA/DCMA/SUPSHIP
  • Experience external audit firms preferred
  • Ability to build strong relationships, strong written and verbal communication skills to effectively communicate and address questions with all levels of management.
  • Must work with a sense of urgency and have the ability to handle confidential information in a professional manner. Can handle demands from multiple customers and has the ability to prioritize.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with multiple teams/organizations with attention to detail and strong organizational skills. Excellent attention to detail, organization skills a must.
  • Strong computer proficiency and technical aptitude to utilize MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Experience with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems, preferably IFS.

DIRECTION EXERCISED: Leads and directs department to fulfill requirements with schedule and regulatory constraints. Provides direction to all employees and departments with regard to adherence to state and federal regulations. Has authority to provide work direction and establish performance standards for employees assigned. Responsible to supply constructive feedback to employees and provides input for performance that may affect employment actions. Leads, coaches and develops personnel.

DISCRETION EXERCISED: Ability to work independent and exercise sound judgment. Exercises a wide degree of latitude and creativity when analyzing issues and suggesting solutions. Relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.

LIAISES WITH: All departmental personnel throughout the organization to include Senior Leadership. Auditors, Finance Team, Controller, CFO, DCAA/SUPSHIP, Corporate personnel, Compliance Consultants and other Regulatory Authorities.


  • The ability to obtain and maintain a DoD clearance may be required if deemed necessary in the scope of your position responsibilities.
