REPORTS TO: Mission Systems Coordinator and Mission Systems Manager
SUPERVISES: N/A
AUTHORITIES / RESPONSIBILITIES: Communicates daily with Mission Systems Coordinator to ensure ship’s needs are met, collaborates with various teams to ensure Navigation Systems are operating appropriately while tracking any issues, reporting those issues to the appropriate personnel, and supporting efforts to avoid delays; responsibilities include providing updates and status reports, participating in test procedures, technical meetings, readiness reviews, shipboard inspections, and operating, maintaining, and certifying all Navigational Systems aboard Austal USA programs.
- Collaborate with Production, Integrators, and Test and Activation teams to ensure Ship Navigation Systems operate as intended, while safeguarding AUSA’s interests and supporting efforts to avoid schedule delays.
- Communicate daily with Mission Systems Coordinator and support ships where most needed/or assigned in relation to Mission Systems’ Navigation Systems; track and elevate all major issues involving Mission Systems’ scope of work to appropriate personnel.
- Provide updates and status reports on current actions regarding Mission Systems’ Navigation Systems for situational awareness.
- Participate in technical meetings, readiness reviews, and shipboard inspections to represent Mission Systems and provide subject matter expertise on Navigation Systems functionality and installation requirements.
- Performs and/or participates in test procedures, maintains accurate documentation of test results, discrepancies, corrective actions, and configuration changes in accordance with program requirements and quality assurance procedures.
- Follows installation progress, and system readiness to proactively identify risks to mission-critical milestones.
- The Mission Systems Navigation Integrator Specialist will be the Navigation System Proprietor and will be responsible for the operation, maintenance, and certification of each Navigational Systems aboard Austal USA Programs.
QUALIFICATIONS / KNOWLEDGE / EXPERIENCE:
- Four (4) to Six (6) years of shipyard systems integration or test execution
experience or equivalent experience.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Understanding of scheduling and an ability to adhere to strict deadlines.
- Experienced in interacting with Production, Integrators, and Test and Activation.
- Computer literate and familiar with System Schematics and Microsoft Office
products.
- Working knowledge of ship systems and structures.
- Experienced with Electrical hookup and Cannon plugs
- Experience with the following documents: CBDs, WCLs, CDRLs, etc.
- Knowledge of Compass Systems, Gyroscopic Systems, Navigation System Networks, Voyage Management Systems, Depth Sounding, VDR, AIS, Speed Sensing Systems, and Navigational Radar Systems.

Specific physical requirements include the following:
Must have the ability to bend, squat, stoop, crawl, and kneel. Perform prolonged standing. Ability to turn head from side to side and about the vertical axis. Ability to turn body at the waist from side to side and about the vertical axis. Lift/push/pull 50lbs to 75lbs on an occasional basis. Lift/push/pull up to 20lbs on a frequent basis. Must have the ability to climb in a safe manner (climbing as a minimum includes stairs, scaffolding, ladders, and ramps). Ability to work at heights above 12’ while working from ladders, scaffolding and/or man lifts. Able to work at a variety of levels (ex. waist, eye, overhead). Demonstrate the ability to safely and appropriately use required tools and equipment. Demonstrate good balance while working on uneven surfaces and maneuvering obstacles. Possess sufficient handgrip and coordination to carry and operate tools and equipment. Ability to utilize personal protective equipment (hard hat, safety glasses, steel-toes shoes, goggles, respirator, safety harness, safety line, flotation gear, etc.) safely per OSHA standards. Ability to withstand cold and hot temperatures. Ability to enter 18” x 36” openings and work in confined spaces for prolonged periods of time. Able to respond to verbal and audible sounds/commands. Able to utilize adequate visual skills. Ability to fully extend the arm while reaching overhead, reaching out, reaching to the side and reaching down. Ability to perceive attributes of an object/material such as size, shape, temperature and texture by means of receptors in the hands and fingers.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to humid conditions, bright flashing lights, moving mechanical parts, high precarious places, outside weather conditions, and extreme heat. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes and/or airborne particles at or below the PEL, toxic or caustic chemicals, and heat and cold. The noise level in the work environment is usually very loud, + 90 dB.
