  • Responsible for the coordination, guidance, and execution of assigned availabilities including but not limited to Cost, Schedule and Quality performance.
  • Provides input to the Project Manager for development of executable Integrated Master Schedule (IMS) including schedule & budget establishment.
  • Ensures that the vessel repair/maintenance/construction processes arecarried out to plan and to budget.
  •  Conduct daily/weekly production meetings with as necessary to identify current status and concerns and has the authority to initiate and follow through with required variance analyses and associated corrective action plans
  •  Leads the Project Team consisting of Project Coordinators and the functional department leads (including major subcontractor leads) assigned to the Post Delivery Availability project.
  • Presents plan of the day at daily deck plate meetings in absence of the Project Manager.
  • Manages project specific risks relative to schedule and cost
  • Responsible for implementation and maintenance of the Project Management plan
  • Primary interface with the customer regarding availability daily execution efforts; including development of plan of the day with assigned project coordinator.
  • Conducts weekly Project Team meetings to review and analyze the progress against the baseline schedule, critical path, budget, procurement status, project risk, resource requirements, weight management, review of corrective action, and general business associated with assigned availability.
  • Act as Control Account Manager (CAM) for assigned availability efforts
  • Monitor all project specific labor and material budgets and liaise with the Post Delivery management team throughout the project on any cost concerns
  • Ensure a prompt implementation of schedules and resource plans by all departments
  • Monitor all schedules and resource plans and resolve any abnormalities with the Functional Leads
  • Responsible for the development of scope of work statements associated with the execution of Availability work items.
  • Monitor quality standards and give feedback to the Functional Leads
  • Ensure all applicable checklists are maintained in accordance with specified requirements
  • Complies with Austal’s employee handbook general guidelines, company procedures and policies.
  • Maintains effective deck plate working relationships across the functional team, prime contractor, subcontractors, ships force and PMS communities.
  • Provides daily deck plate management and reviews progress/status of subcontractors executing work items and addresses schedule and cost variance constructively.


  • Must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19
  • Bachelor degree in Industrial Engineering or Management preferred. High School Diploma required.
  • Fully competent in shipbuilding industry related crafts or specific discipline.
  • Minimum of seven (7) years’ experience in a shipbuilding, ship repair or similar construction and manufacturing industrial type environment to include supervision or management experience required.
  • Knowledge of Earned Value Management System (EVMS) required.
  • Ability to read and interpret shipbuilding contracts and specifications required.
  • Ability to read and interpret regulatory body and classification society guides, rules, and regulations required.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and data while navigating effectively with applicable software required.
  • Ability to utilize and interpret relevant cost and schedule data reports including having a familiarity of scheduling software (Primavera, Microsoft Project, etc.) required.
  • Ability to efficiently validate, interpret and understand task scheduling or work sequencing required.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint) required.
  • Ability to work independently with little supervision and take initiative in all aspects of the position duties required.
  • Willingness to work irregular and extended work hours as needed required.
  • Repair experience preferred
  • Ability to operate and troubleshoot shipboard systems as required.



  • Must be able to obtain and maintain required Security Clearance.
  • Must obtain and maintain TWIC credentials

All candidates must meet Austal USA’s basic employment eligibility guidelines:

  • Position will necessitate travel on a regular basis

TRAVEL:  This position will be required to manage repair efforts in various offsite locations and will be required to travel to customer sites to support work on vessels.  The potential for offsite travel can potentially be in excess of 30-50%.  Some overseas travel is possible although NO TRAVEL to declared warzones is anticipated.



The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Must be able to tour all vessels and work sites.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to manipulate, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, climb and balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and talk or hear.  The employee is occasionally required to sit. 

Specific physical requirements include the following:

1. Must have the ability to bend, squat, stoop, crawl, and kneel.

2. Perform prolonged standing.

3. Ability to turn head from side to side and about the vertical axis.

4. Ability to turn body at the waist from side to side and about the vertical axis.

5. Lift/push/pull 50lbs to 75lbs on an occasional basis.

6. Lift/push/pull up to 20lbs on a frequent basis.

7. Must have the ability to climb in a safe manner (climbing as a minimum includes stairs, scaffolding, ladders, and ramps).

8. Ability to work at heights above 12’ while working from ladders, scaffolding and/or man lifts.

9. Able to work at a variety of levels (ex. waist, eye, overhead).

10. Demonstrate the ability to safely and appropriately use required tools and equipment.

11. Demonstrate good balance while working on uneven surfaces and maneuvering obstacles.

12. Possess sufficient handgrip and coordination to carry and operate tools and equipment.

13. Ability to utilize personal protective equipment (hard hat, safety glasses, steel-toes shoes, goggles, respirator, safety harness, safety line, flotation gear, etc.) safely per OSHA standards.

14. Ability to withstand cold and hot temperatures.

15. Ability to enter 18” x 36” openings and work in confined spaces for prolonged periods of time.

16. Able to respond to verbal and audible sounds/commands.

17. Able to utilize adequate visual skills.

18. Ability to fully extend the arm while reaching overhead, reaching out, reaching to the side and reaching down.

19. Ability to perceive attributes of an object/material such as size, shape, temperature and texture by means of receptors in the hands and fingers.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to humid conditions, bright flashing lights, moving mechanical parts, high precarious places, outside weather conditions, and extreme heat.  The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes and/or airborne particles at or below the PEL, toxic or caustic chemicals, and heat and cold.  The noise level in the work environment is usually very loud, + 90 dB.
