Austal USA AT operates a technology hub in Charlottesville VA which works to bring cutting-edge manufacturing technologies to scale and also oversees operation of the U.S. Navy’s Additive Manufacturing Center of Excellence (AM COE) located in Danville, VA. The mission of the AM COE is to operationalize additive manufacturing in the submarine industrial base and provide emergent request support to sustain our Nation’s fleet.
AUTHORITIES / RESPONSIBILITIES: Provides quality management service by ensuring that all internal and external quality standards are met by conducting root cause analysis, giving technical guidance, and completing customer requests; responsibilities: ensure compliance with ISO certification, identify resource needs to develop and grow department, as well as product management and quality testing.
- Ensure compliance of the Danville location’s International Organization of Standardization (ISO) certification.
- Responsible for providing day to day Quality Management support to the Danville facility to support TDP creation and sustainment production requests through completion.
- Direct supervisor and tasking of quality personnel at the Danville location, providing feedback to the Quality and on-site Operations Manager as needed.
- Responsible for identifying resource needs (staffing, professional development, and/or tools necessary) to maintain the growth and development of the quality department at the Danville location and communicating needs to the Quality Manager.
- Responsible for soliciting and identify revision required to procedures, plans and process to support Quality Management System improvement at the Danville facility.
- Ensures that product testing is performed, and documentation is in place to demonstrate that only products that meet all internal and external quality requirements are approved for shipment.
- Oversees technical guidance to ensure advanced statistical tools are effectively utilized for continuous product and process improvement.
- Leads the root cause analysis, when necessary, at the Danville location to ensure it is quickly investigated and that effective, permanent solutions are implemented.
- Collaborate and liaison with Operations Management and personnel of our on-site program partners.
- Maintains communication with customers on quality and continuous improvement requirements and expectations (such as providing responses to customer corrective action requests).
- Works with other department management to align departmental activities to drive measurable results.
- Review and approval as the Quality Management designee for process reviews, inspection documentation, NCR and Corrective Action Requests (CAR).
- Review and approval for QMS activities and documentation in the MES and PLM as required.
- Responsible for the creation, maintenance and reporting of Quality Metrics to support internal and external reporting requirements (such as CAR metric and perform trending analysis).
- Participates in internal and external audits as required.

QUALIFICATIONS / KNOWLEDGE / EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline such as Mechanical or Industrial.
- 7 years or more related experience in quality systems with a track record of increasing responsibilities. Requires a thorough understanding of statistics and quality control procedures in a manufacturing environment.
- Excellent oral and written communication with presence in front of customers.
- Physical requirements: Standing: 30% of the time, Sitting: 30% of the time, Walking about 40% of the time.

- Noise, heat, dust, and fumes normal for manufacturing environment.

DIRECTION EXERCISED: Full discretionary authority to assign work.
DISCRETION EXERCISED: Full discretionary authority to correct and discipline, recommend pay increase, transfers, promotions, discharges, and process grievances.
