REPORTS TO:  Lead Maintenance Foreman

SUPERVISES:  CNC Maintenance Technicians


  • Effectively manage CNC Maintenance technicians
  • Ensure the preventive and predictive maintenance procedures and effective and that they are followed routinely in accordance with OEM recommendations
  • Ensure documentation is current and accurate for preventive maintenance and reactive maintenance.
  • Performs repairs to OEM standards or initiates effort with Supply Chain to source vendors for repairs
  • Acts as coach, mentor and trainer for CNC Maintenance Technicians
  • Notifies management through chain of command on significant equipment downtime and significant equipment repair expense in a timely manner
  • Coordinates with Production for shutdown, routine, and reactive maintenance activities
  • Duties include all those specified in CNC Maintenance Technician job description
  • Other duties as assigned by Foreman or Manager.


  • High school diploma or demonstrated equivalent.
  • Six years of experience as a CNC repair technician in an industrial production environment, or demonstrated equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Three years of experience as a supervisor
  • Ability to work in an aerial lift or scissor lift at heights up to 30 feet or higher.
  • Ability to read and understand schematics, blue prints and drawings
  • Willing to work any shift and holidays as needed
  • Preferred Qualifications
    • Associates Degree in Industrial Technology, Industrial Electrical, or related program.
    • Experience troubleshooting Allen Bradley, Siemens 7, Mitsubishi, Siemens 840d and Fanuc controllers.
    • Experience troubleshooting Gantry/Robotic systems and controls (Fanuc, ABB, Liebherr, etc.)
    • Experience troubleshooting CNC Machine tools, including but not limited to Heller, Prism, ABA, Elb, Liebherr and Toyoda.
    • Experience diagnosing, troubleshooting and repairing mechanical systems such as conveyors, filtration systems, and coolant systems to OEM specifications.
    • Experience with alignments and machine geometry using precision calibration tools.
  • Experience troubleshooting, repairing and working safely with 480v 3 phase electrical components.
  • Experience utilizing measurement tools such as micrometers, dial indicators, various type gauges, and calibers to set tolerances to OEM Specifications.
  • Experience using ballbar and laser equipment for alignments, calibration, and compensations of CNC controlled machine tools.
  • NFPA-70E Training.


  • The ability to obtain and maintain a DoD clearance may be required if deemed necessary in the scope of your position responsibilities.
  • Candidates must meet the following employment eligibility guidelines to be eligible for employment  with Austal USA:
    • 18 years or older at time of application
    • Fully vaccinated for COVID-19
    • Able to provide proof of US Person status (permanent resident or citizen)
    • No felony convictions of theft/deception or violent crimes within seven years from disposition date
    • No felony convictions of drug crimes within three years from disposition date
    • Willing to submit to a drug screen
    • Willing to submit to a background check

TOOLS:  Hand tools, laser alignment tools, measuring tools, computer diagnostic, internet, meters, and others


  • Authority to direct day-to-day activities of CNC Maintenance Technicians. 
  • Assesses performance of technicians. 
  • Follow safety guidelines to ensure injury-free operation including shutdown if deemed necessary.


  • Within broader guidelines established by management, determines and executes day-to-day priorities.
  • Determines effective work schedule including overtime.

LIAISES WITH: Production, Engineering, other Maintenance crews, Logistics, and Vendors

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to humid conditions, bright flashing lights, moving mechanical parts, high precarious places, outside weather conditions, and extreme heat.  The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes and/or airborne particles at or below the PEL, toxic or caustic chemicals, and heat and cold.  The noise level in the work environment is usually very loud, + 90 dB.
