  • Work with Senior Materials & Logistics Manager to develop and implement lean inbound logistics and transportation strategies.
  • Manage relationships between Austal USA, third party logistics provider, freight carriers, customs brokers and US Customs.
  • Work closely with buyers, suppliers and production to coordinate timely delivery of material to production while managing inventory balance.
  • Develop and maintain freight carrier score cards.  Meet regularly with carriers to monitor performance and implement improvement actions.
  • Develop and maintain metrics to track and analyse logistics/freight cost and performance.  Analyse costs/performance by carriers and modes, implementing improvements to achieve best combination of cost and performance for Austal.
  • Manage Austal USA Import/Export compliance and Foreign Trade Zone (FTZ) operations.  Act as central point of contact with brokers and US Customs and Border Patrol.
  • Work with Purchasing dept. to effectively transition contracts to Ex Works as appropriate.  Develop models for ensuring best cost solutions are obtained for minimizing total cost of acquisition with regard to freight and customs costs.
  • Ensure functional integration of IFS ERP system and Lean third party logistics providers tracking system to ensure maximum benefit and reporting ability.
  • Partner with Shipping/Receiving in order to optimize freight and local transportation requirements.
  • Minimize packaging waste and disposal through implementation of returnable shipping containers, pallets, and other packaging where applicable.
  • Provide a central conduit for all freight requirements and ensure scheduling and routing optimization.  Exploit opportunities for leverage and synergy.
  • Ensure all logistics suppliers adhere to the safety requirements according to the Austal USA Safety Policy.
  • Dedicated focus on continuous improvement and innovative logistics solutions.


  • Four year degree in a related field such as Logistics or Supply Chain Management preferred. 
  • Experience in managing freight carrier relationships and logistics coordination in a global supply chain.
  • A team player with sound negotiating and influencing skills
  • Professional, motivated and able to work proactively & autonomously
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with others
  • Strategic, analytical and innovative, with solid problem solving skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and Outlook
  • ERP experience helpful.
