REPORTS TO: Integrated Logistics Systems (ILS) Technical Writer Lead
SUPERVISES: N/A
AUTHORITIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Responsible for providing technical data for multiple platforms assigned.
Technical data includes the following:
- Commercial Off-The-Shelf (COTS) Manuals
- Contractor Developed Technical Data (CDTD) written to the S1000D standard that adhere to the product’s business rules established as part of the official CDRL submission
- Cutter Information Book written to the S1000D standard to produce an XML output for CDRL submission
- Technical Repair Standard (TRS) to include major systems prescribed by contract that includes instructions for overhaul maintenance.
- Damage Control Booklets to include lifesaving equipment, fixed fire suppression systems, dewatering schematics, valve and piping schematics, HVAC schematics as well as damage control diagrams
- Damage Control Plates
- Special Purpose Manuals to include Engineering Operating Manual, Machinery Plant Maintenance Manual, Cargo Securing Manual, Water Ballast Management Manual, and others
- Identify equipment that requires organizational maintenance.
- Input technical data into a Common Source Database (CSDB) in accordance with the GEIA-STD-0007 standard.
- Responsible for interfacing with OEMs/Suppliers to obtain Vendor Furnished Information as needed
- Responsible for interfacing with Navy/Supship personnel and sub-contractor personnel on all technical manual related issues
- Responsible for ensuring all change order activity that impacts technical manuals is processed, documented and communicated to rest of ILS Team
- Successful applicant must be willing to cross-train to other areas within ILS as necessary
QUALIFICATIONS / KNOWLEDGE / EXPERIENCE:
- High School diploma or equivalent required. Degree in related field preferred
- Minimum 10 years of experience writing military technical documents, preferably related to HM&E equipment, to include writing text, tables, developing and/or incorporating schematics, diagrams and graphics technical analysis or operational ILS or maintenance engineering.
- Minimum 5 years of experience producing technical documentation in accordance with MIL-DTL-24784 and MIL-DTL-24784/4.
- Prior Navy, USCG, Military Sealift Command or Shipyard equipment experience required
- Knowledge of US Navy or US Coast Guard maintenance experience preferred.
- Demonstrated knowledge of MIL-DTL-24784/22.
- Demonstrated knowledge of how human systems integration influences technical data development.
- Demonstrated knowledge of structured authoring using S1000D standards utilizing technical data from a CSDB.
- Demonstrated experience working with technical documents required, to include:
- MIL-STDs and MIL-DTLs, IETMs, TMCRs, DIDs
- OEM drawings and parts lists
- Various vendor furnished information to determine if it is adequate to meet contractual requirements.
- Inputting into databases based on MIL-STD-1388, MIL-PRF-49506 or GEIA-STD-0007.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Experienced in interacting with Supply Chain, Engineering, Operations, and multiple design teams from several companies, customer representatives and equipment manufacturers.
- Computer skills required; Microsoft Office products knowledge. Candidates with experience using SLICwave is a plus.

DIRECTION EXERCISED: Will determine the technical adequacy of all technical manual deliverables
DISCRETION EXERCISED: Will provide technical manual input to all members of the ILS Team
LIAISES WITH: Engineering, Supply Chain, Operations, Navy, Equipment Suppliers, and ILS Support Contractors

- The ability to obtain and maintain a DoD clearance may be required if deemed necessary in the scope of your position responsibilities.
