AUTHORITIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Knowledgeable of each benefit plan and makes decisions within the scope of the benefit program/ plan documents as to eligibility and coverage.
  • Investigates and resolves benefit plan discrepancies and provides information in non-routine situations to ensure quick, equitable, courteous resolution to employees.
  • Coordinates benefits fair; manages Annual Open Enrollment activities including vendor relations, scheduling, and communication.
  • Maintains group benefits databases and employee benefit records.
  • Processes monthly billings and prepares vouchers for submission to Accounts Payable timely for payment.
  • Advises individuals regarding eligibility and coverage for such programs as health, dental, vision, group life, long- and short-term disability, retirement savings, and other such plans.
  • Provides day-to-day benefits administration of Company provided benefits such as health, dental, disability, critical illness, flexible spending accounts, 401K and life insurance per Company policies and Summary Plan Descriptions.
  • Initiates COBRA eligibility communicate and ensures enrollments are processed timely and accurately. Troubleshoots COBRA issues with former employees and dependents and interacts with external vendor to ensure compliance with COBRA processing guidelines.
  • Writes benefits communication pieces for Austal Newsletter and ensures that newsletter is published timely.
  • Writes benefits education material and conducts seminars and informational events, inclusive of orientation, lunch and learn sessions;
  • Conducts new hire benefits orientation and ensures accuracy and completeness of benefit materials.
  • Point of contact between Workday and vendor systems to ensure data files are interfacing correctly.
  • Supports MLOA Leaves of absences and serves as back-up to Leave of Absence (LOA) Coordinator when needed.
  • Point of contact for employees on Military Leave (MLOA); processes MLOA paid / unpaid time off requests.
  • Monitors LOA cases and coordinates catch up payment of outstanding premiums via system and interface with Payroll.
  • Performs audits annual open enrollment processes to ensure accuracy.
  • Performs special Benefits projects as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS / KNOWLEDGE / EXPERIENCE:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent; and 4 years’ experience in Human Resources

with primary responsibility in area of Benefits

  • Bachelors’ degree in Human Resources preferred with minimum of 2 years’ related experience with degree
  • High level of computer proficiency and technical aptitude to utilize MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, and HRIS database applications.
  • Strong proficiency with HRIS data management and possess systems aptitude.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills; Ability to analyze issues and suggest solutions
  • Strong organizational skills; Ability to collect, organize, and analyze data for various projects
