REPORTS TO:  Director of AWC

SUPERVISES:  Work completion of Production/Trade Supervisors and other project functional leads as assigned

SUMMARY:  Responsible for the repair, service or construction of vessels or components on time and on budget through leading and managing project teams.


  • Leads the project team consisting of trade supervision and subcontractors. Focuses on identifying resource requirements, sequencing work, developing schedules and monitoring progress against the baseline schedule and budget.
  • Works with project team’s trade supervisors to ensure production tasks are carried out in accordance with the plan, schedule, and budget.
  • Conducts weekly project team meetings to review and report on progress against the baseline schedule, critical path, and budget; procurement status; project risk; and resource requirements.
  • Manages project specific risks to mitigate impact to schedule and budget.
  • Requests QA assistance to support with surveys as required.
  • Maintains the survey documentation in the appropriate job folder.
  • Executes the trials agenda and coordinates the operation of the vessel in support of the required at sea testing.
  • Monitors all project specific labor and material budgets and liaises AWC leadership throughout the project on any cost issues.
  • Ensures a prompt implementation of schedules and resource plans by all trades.
  • Monitors and enforces housekeeping standards, compliance to PPE and safe work habits. Assigns housekeeping responsibilities, as appropriate, to ensure a good, safe working environment for all personnel.
  • Ensures a smooth interaction between all trades and external contractors resolving any areas of conflict that may hinder the progress of work scheduled.
  • Serves as the customer’s primary point of contact throughout project.
  • Works with customer’s representative to establish requirements of changes and assist in the estimating of that change.
  • Develops backup data for the processing of change orders.
  • Assists in the review of estimates for work developed by the estimating team.
  • Inspects and approves all work is complete and performed to customer requirements prior to job completion.
  • Monitors quality standards and gives feedback to the trade supervisors and subcontractors.
  • Responsible for vessel security and preparations for inclement weather.


  • High school diploma/ GED.
  • Eight (8) years of experience in shipbuilding, ship repair or a closely related construction capacity.
  • Three (3) years of experience leading, managing and supervising shipbuilding, ship repair or closely related construction projects.
  • Knowledge of all functional disciplines involved in the design and construction processes related to shipbuilding.
  • Knowledge of Earned Value Management System (EVMS).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

DIRECTION EXERCISED:  Full discretionary authority to assign work.

DISCRETION EXERCISED:  Full discretionary authority to manage direct reports to include document performance, correct/discipline, recommend pay increases and process grievances.

LIAISES WITH:  Liaise with suppliers, external contractors, classification societies, flag authorities and owners and/or owners’ representatives as required.


  • Must be able to obtain and maintain required Security Clearance.
  • All candidates must meet Austal USA’s basic employment eligibility guidelines:
    • 18 years or older at time of application
    • Able to provide proof of US Person status (permanent resident or citizen)
    • No felony convictions of theft/deception or violent crimes within seven years from disposition date
    • No felony convictions of drug crimes within three years from disposition date
    • Willing to submit to a drug screen
    • Willing to submit to a background check
