REPORTS TO:   Chief Operating Officer - Transformation

SUPERVISES:  Purchasing and Logistical Managers and Administrative Assistant

AUTHORITIES / RESPONSIBILITIES: Directs the overall management of the Supply Chain Management Department (SCM) inclusive of Purchasing and Logistics activities. Response for productivity, expense levels and asset management of SCM functions

  • Manages Supply Chain Department's activities to support all of Austal's material purchasing and logistical needs.
  • Responsible for formulating and implementing all strategic  and tactical plans for the Supply Chain  Department to insure all of Austal's near term and long term purchasing and logistical requirements are and will continue  to be satisfied  in a professional, ethical and highly efficient  manner.
  • Responsible for developing and maintaining strategic agreements with key suppliers to promote stability and economic order quantity savings where appropriate.
  • Responsible for developing, implementing and monitoring strategic warehousing operations, material-to-production integration and advanced inventory control systems.
  • Establish performance standards and drive continuous improvement in the
  • Supply Chain Department through the effective use of leading supply chain techniques.
  • Ensure compliance with all contractual FAR/DFAR  requirements

QUALIFICATIONS / KNOWLEDGE / EXPERIENCE:

  • 15 years’ experience in Supply Chain leadership required.
  • 5 years in a Director level position or above; Non purchasing experience may be considered if in related field such as engineering or program management required.
  • BS in Finance, Engineering or Supply Chain Management preferred  
  • Master's degree preferred.
  • Experience in shipbuilding industry and government defense contracting preferred.
  • Certified Supply Management Professional (CSMP) and/or Certified Production and Inventory Control Management (CPIM) preferred.
  • Excellent skills in managing personnel.
  • Advanced strategic purchasing management skills a must.
    • Advanced computer skills preferred.

DIRECTION EXERCISED:  Directs the work of others through subordinate managers and I or supervisors.  Serves as coach and mentor to management staff and supports continued professional development to build bench strength for critical departmental positions. Confers with other Department Directors to establish mutually agreeable timelines and performance requirements.

DISCRETION EXERCISED:

Functions as a strategic business advisor to other functional and operating units in the organization on matters related to SCM. Establishes, communicates and enforces company policy within scope of SCM. Authority to take corrective and disciplinary action with guidance/oversight from Human Resources; shall make recommendations for hiring, firing, promotions, transfers and pay adjustments.

o   High School Diploma/GED or comparable trade experience with comparable trade experience defined as five (5) or more years of experience working in the applicable trade, two (2) years of experience in shipbuilding, or, education in the trade comparable to apprenticeship.
